Time for a Change?

It seems there is never a right time to change an item of value. Your car is starting to incur significant repair, servicing and running costs; the computer sat on your desk is slowing down and lacks a lot of the modern “tech specs”. A decision needs to be made…

INTERESTS Website Design and Development,

The same can be said of your company website. The website is probably your most visual presence, the means by which potential clients learn about you, judge you, and ultimately decide whether to do business with you. It is, therefore, critical that it performs efficiently and effectively, and is perceived by your visitors to offer genuine competitive advantage.

So, when is the right time to update or redesign your website? We believe a number of factors play a part in the decision making process:

1. Your Industry

Some mature business sectors are slow in changing (Banking and Insurance come to mind) whilst others – fashion, design, technology, and so on – are constantly developing and innovating. The nature of your market place will influence the time for change.

2. Competition

Check out your competitors’ websites. Are they more attractive than yours? Do they provide easier navigation, better content, higher image quality? If you want to be the best, you need to be seen to be the best.

3. Device Responsiveness

Over 50% of internet usage is now carried out on mobile devices – smartphones and tablets – and this trend will continue. If your website does not respond to the different screen sizes then it’s time to change. At AMS, all the websites we now design are always, always, fully responsive, to ensure our clients maximize their website potential.

4. Computer Language

If your website is more than 2-3 years old, it’s likely that your developer used HTML or CSS to “write’” your site, and only the developer can understand and access it. This makes it difficult and costly for you, the site owner, to update content. Now, modern websites use a content management system, such as WordPress, which, with a little training, makes accessing and editing a simple in-house process.

5. Search Engine Optimization

Are you consistently on the front page of Google, or is your website wallowing down the rankings? Meanwhile you can see your key competitors occupying all the top spots…

Your website design, methods of navigation, content, keywords, descriptors may well be the cause, and we can work with you to optimize your site’s layout and content to ensure the best possible results with Google and the other Search Engines.

One or more of these factors may be at fault for a poorly performing website. Given the important role it plays in the communications process, we believe that investment in an update or redesign will result in signifiant long-term benefits to your company.
