Asia Media Studio has been involved with their catalogues’ design for the past four years, using text and photographic imagery provided by Vagabond, delivering high quality artwork for printing in the States. Until this year, this involved the design of four catalogues annually, each of around 36 pages.
This year, two things changed. Firstly Vagabond decided to merge the four catalogues into one 200+ page book. Secondly, after representations by AMS, the company agreed to print in Thailand, generating significant cost savings.
This was, without question, a huge task; the fact that the catalogue was a combination of previous versions, together with product ranges changing over time meant that very careful and creative design layouts were required. Over 900 product lines featured with almost as many pictures, each with its own descriptor noting the product code, price and size, each requiring identical spacing and horizontal and vertical alignment to deliver a consistent presentation.
Every last detail needed to be checked and rechecked – grammar and spelling, product identifications, product codes, spacings and alignments – nothing could be left to task. Two designers and our copywriter spent many hours eliminating every last oversight.
Time was spent with the printer to ensure there would be no print issues during production – white color descriptors off a dark photographic image background was one area for concern – and the final proof was studied intensely for any errors and for print quality.
We finally pressed the button for a print run of xxxxx, and the result is an outstanding hard-backed catalogue, This was a project that tested us fully, and we are delighted, as is the client, with the final outcome.
